This project began as a branding exercise for a hypothetical Black & White Film Festival, focused on developing a primary logo and a film poster using a single color. The goal was to create an identity rooted in the present, while also acknowledging a time when black and white cinema was the dominant motion picture language.
The logo was developed through extensive sketching of simple geometric forms, filmstrip references, and high contrast shapes to explore the literal and symbolic functions of black and white. For the poster, the palette was restricted to a single color layered against black and white, using grain, silhouette, and restrained typography to gesture to mid-century film advertising and experimental cinema. Across all components, the design approach hoped for clarity, reduction, and historical reference, resulting in a utilitarian yet expressive identity that remains functional in a contemporary context.
