The goal was to create an identity rooted in the present,&nbsp; while also acknowledging a time when black and white cinema was the dominant motion picture language. The logo was developed through extensive sketching of simple geometric forms, filmstrip references, and high contrast shapes to explore the literal and symbolic functions of black and white. For the poster, the palette was restricted to a single color layered against black and white, using grain, silhouette, and restrained typography to gesture to mid-century film advertising and experimental cinema. Issue One presents an imagined world untouched by global warming, using animal silhouettes filled with thriving natural environments to evoke an alternate ecological timeline. Issue Two contrasts this vision with a harsher reality, silhouettes now contain imagery of wildfires, pollution, melting ice, and environmental collapse. Across both covers, the recurring animal forms reference species most affected by environmental change, while shifting color palettes—calm blues versus urgent reds—reinforce the narrative progression. The promotional designs direction mirrored the natural materials of the work while directly showcasing them.
